“We, babies, are having a crisis.” Boss Baby.

Do you know where babies come from? It’s not where you might think, according to the Boss Baby. Babies, apparently, are created in a factory and then sent down a production chute where they are powdered, diapered and given a pacifier. Depending on their ticklishness, they will become either a regular baby or go straight to the office of baby executive management.

Boss baby arrives, by taxi, to the house of Tim Templeton and his parents. Tim is a 7-year old with an extremely overactive imagination. Much to his horror, the baby takes over the household and suddenly the only child is sharing all of the love and attention from his mother and father. Tim suspects that something isn’t quite right with a baby dressed in a suit. He’s right! The Boss Baby and his secret baby formula have been sent to earth on a mission! To succeed, however, he needs Tim’s help. The frolic begins as they must join forces to defeat the evil CEO of Puppy Co.

The movie is mostly narrated from Tim’s point of view. Despite the animation, however, you may not think of this as a kid’s movie. Some parents feel that The Boss Baby provides an excellent vehicle to have a discussion with their kids on sibling rivalry. The problem is, however, you have to get past some of the raunchier, adult humor.

Great movie moments:

Alex Baldwin lends his distinctive voice to that of the Boss Baby. His deadpan delivery is perfect for the role. Also lending their voices are Lisa Kudrow, as the mother, and Jimmy Kimmell, as the father. Tobey Maquire lends his voice as the adult Tim narrator.

Reality versus baby world is hilarious, especially the scene when it looks like the kids are rip roaring around the yard, when in reality they are moving in baby slow motion.

Not-so-great movie moments:

My grandson found the movie hilarious for the first 10 minutes, but once the humor went over his head, he lost all interest. A repeat viewing, however, caught his attention during most of the movie.

Overall, despite the fact that this is almost an adult movie in disguise, it is extremely entertaining. I give The Boss Baby a 4 out of 5 stars.
